American Traders' Windsor Chairs are hand made in Vermont. They are built with a wooden seat into which the backrest and undercarriage are fixed. Typically, the backrest and arm pieces are formed from steam bent pieces of wood. Windsor chairs were developed in the late 17th century in High Wycombe, England and named after the Royal town of Windsor. Windsors were introduced to America in 1726 by Patrick Gordon, the Governor of Pennsylvania. American Windsors were historically painted with milk paint, often a light color over-painted with a dark color and then coated with linseed oil for protection. With use, this paint wears off around the edges and displays a characteristic wear pattern that reveals the paint colors underneath. Our Windsor Chairs are built and finished in the traditional way. Along with our windsor chairs American Traders also provides an assortment of decorative and functional accessories & gifts that look fantastic in your home, camp, cabin, or lodge.
